About

Hello and a warm welcome to my website

A little about me and my journey in photography.

I was born in Derby, UK and from a young age, I have been fascinated with pictures and how they are made.
My first ever camera was a Kodak Tele-electra 1 Film Camera, where I gained the confidence to photograph what I wanted and my view upon the world changed.
I was able to be creative and learn about compesition but the best part was getting the photographs back and seeing what worked out and what didn't.
When I got to 14, everything changed. I had reached the point where I needed more control over my photography and holiday snaps would no longer do.
I invested in a Pentax K100 SLR camera and a few lenses which I still own. Now I could learn about camera settings and the thoughts that go into making a photograph.
Besides landscapes, astro-photography was high on my list and soon the stars and planets were were in my sights, not to mention photographing a colourful display of the Aurora
from Thetford. Around this time, the first digital cameras hit the shops. I decided I wanted to see what the fuss was all about so purchased a Fuji Finepix 1.1 Megapixel
compact camera and had a play. Straight away I could see the benefit to reviewing an image and being able to edit and print myself without having to wait for it to return
from the developers. A few years later, I purchased the Canon 400D and was gobsmacked at how easy it was to use along with the quality of the images produced. Now I was able to take landscape and astro-photography pictures the way I always wanted to.

My photography now.

Over the years, I have photographed many subjects from glorious landscapes to action packed events. Whilst I still enjoy all aspects of photography, I mostly concentrate on
outdoor and nature photography. I find nothing more relaxing than going for a walk along the coast or the uplands with a camera in hand looking for my next photograph.

The gear I use.

My main camera is my trusty Canon 60D. I still use my Canon 400D as a backup and my Pentax K100 film SLR.
My lenses are Canon 18-55mm, Canon 28-135mm, Sigma 50mm macro, Sigma 70-300mm and a Pentax 50mm lens for the film camera.
I use various filters and a tripod for my landscape photography and a ring flash and reflectors for any macro work I am doing.
I also use a light tent and flash guns with soft boxes when I'm photographing nature indoors.

All of my monitor's are calibrated to industry standard using a Colour Monkey.

The software I use is Adobe Lightroom and Adobe Photoshop.

I believe that it's not all about the equipment you have, it's the way its used to get the results your after. As you can tell from my portfolio, I think I have succeeded.
